Maximizing your distance and accuracy on long shots from the fairway is accomplished by matching the correct shaft flex for your swing. The goal is to achieve the correct trajectory shape with the fairway wood, which maximizes distance with the longer woods and minimizes roll with the shorter woods. Generally, the same shaft type and flex as the player’s driver will produce the optimal trajectory in fairway woods, but it is not uncommon for players to have a different shaft brand, type and/or flex in their fairway woods since they are ground-impact clubs and may perform differently for some players. |
– Weight is at cut length of standard length 3-wood

PING J-5L ROUND | ![]() |
The 5L grip features a firmer texture in the upper portion to help control direction and a softer texture in the lower portion for enhanced feel. It is available in two versions – round for clubs with PING’s Trajectory Tuning+ Technology, and ribbed for the hybrids and irons. |
PING 5L Round Cord | ![]() |
The 5L cord grip features a firmer texture in the upper portion to help control direction and a softer texture in the lower portion for enhanced feel. Cord construction provides an extra-secure grip in all conditions. It is available in two versions – round for clubs with PING’s Trajectory Tuning+ Technology, and ribbed for the hybrids and irons. |
PING offers a variety of grip sizes and styles to fit different hand sizes and texture preferences. Since grip size influences your wrist action, and therefore the direction of your shots, it is commonly used by fitters to affect ball flight. PING color-coded grips are available in six different diameters, and can be further customized with grip tape according to your needs. Once the neutral grip color code has been determined based on hand measurements, golfers may consider smaller diameter grips to help control fades and slices, or larger diameter grips to help control draws and hooks. |
Increased ball speed is achieved through a hotter face without sacrificing high launch or consistency. The face is engineered using Carpenter 475 steel, a material 44 percent stronger than 17-4 stainless steel. The added strength allowed us to create a thin, uniform-thickness face for maximizing deflection to increase ball speed and distance.
Turbulators crafted onto the crown create a captured appearance that assists with aim and provides confidence. The face profile provides an inspirational appearance while increasing its height for additional face bending and forgiveness. A low and deep CG in the 3-wood promotes high launch with optimal spin. The CG progresses more forward and lower in the 5- and 7-woods to keep launch angle and spin uniquely optimized for distance and control in each clubhead.
A new addition to the G family of fairway woods, the lightweight hosel design is engineered with the same mass and outer diameter as our fixed hosels to unlock the benefits of adjustability without sacrificing performance. It offers up to two full degrees of loft adjustment to further optimize launch angle and spin rate. You can choose the standard loft, or fine-tune your trajectory by adding or reducing loft. Settings are standard, + 0.6°, + 1°, – 0.6°, and – 1°. A high-balance-point TFC 419F shaft has a CG that’s closer to the grip end, creating a simultaneous increase in energy, momentum and inertia for faster ball speeds and greater distance. The charcoal, non-glare matte finish eliminates reflections to improve focus.
